In a significant development, the passing-out parade of 191 women police officers was held at the Shahid Hayat Police Training Centre College, Saeedabad, on Thursday. These officers are part of a larger group of 1,351 police recruits who have successfully completed their training.
The women officers, all hailing from Karachi, will now take on the critical responsibility of providing security to Chinese nationals involved in various China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects across Sindh.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, who attended the ceremony, highlighted the importance of this new batch of officers. He expressed confidence that the inclusion of more women in the police force would not only boost the overall performance but also help improve the public perception of the police. He also discussed ongoing reforms, mentioning the transformation of the thana culture with a significant Rs4 billion allocated to enhance police stations across the province. A model police station is planned for each district, with an estimated total cost of Rs280 million.
Minister for Home Affairs, Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, also addressed the gathering, noting the progress made in curbing street crimes in Karachi and tackling banditry in the riverine areas of Sindh. He reaffirmed that the newly trained recruits are well-prepared to ensure the security of CPEC projects, reflecting the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.
