Sony Pictures has officially unveiled the first poster for 28 Years Later, the long-awaited sequel to the cult classics 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. Skipping a reveal at CCXP, the studio chose to surprise fans this week with an ominous visual that hints at a bleak, desolate world. The poster, paired with the tagline “Time Didn’t Heal Anything,” promises a harrowing continuation of the Rage virus saga.
Directed by Danny Boyle, who helmed the original 28 Days Later, this film kicks off a planned trilogy. Renowned screenwriter Alex Garland, returning to the franchise after crafting the scripts for 28 Days Later and Sunshine, has penned this installment as well. While plot details remain tightly guarded, the narrative reportedly follows a young boy leading his ailing mother through the perilous ruins of northern England in search of a doctor, evading hordes of the Rage-infected along the way.
The cast is a powerhouse lineup, including Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Cillian Murphy. While Murphy takes on an executive producer role, fans can expect a cameo appearance from the star of the original film.
Ralph Fiennes recently shared additional insights, highlighting the film’s focus on the emotional journey through a ravaged yet eerily beautiful northern English landscape. The sequel sets the stage for a chilling exploration of survival and human resilience, all while delivering the visceral horror fans have come to expect from the franchise.
28 Years Later is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2025, with the second chapter in the trilogy to be directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman). The chilling teaser has left fans eager for more glimpses of the Rage-ravaged world that has captivated audiences for over two decades.
