Islamabad – A mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale jolted parts of northern Pakistan on Monday, causing panic among residents but no immediate reports of casualties or damage have been received.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the tremors were felt in Swat, Malakand, Dir, and surrounding areas, prompting people to rush out of homes and buildings in fear.
The earthquake struck at a depth of 120 kilometers with its epicenter located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, a seismically active zone that frequently triggers quakes felt across Pakistan.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and follow safety protocols in case of aftershocks. Emergency services are on alert, though no rescue operations have been launched as yet.
Pakistan lies in an active seismic zone and has experienced devastating earthquakes in the past, including the 2005 earthquake that claimed over 80,000 lives.
