Ankara, October 28, 2025 — A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Turkey early Tuesday, causing panic among residents and prompting emergency response efforts across affected regions.
According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the quake’s epicenter was located near the country’s northwestern region, with tremors felt in several major cities including Istanbul, Bursa, and Düzce.
Preliminary reports indicate minor structural damage to some buildings, though no major casualties have been confirmed so far. Rescue and relief teams have been dispatched to assess the situation and assist those affected.
Residents rushed out of homes and buildings as aftershocks were reported shortly after the main tremor. Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and avoid damaged structures.
Turkey lies on several active fault lines and experiences frequent seismic activity, making it one of the world’s most earthquake-prone regions.
