Instagram has rolled out a new feature enabling users to comment directly on Instagram Stories, offering a more public and interactive way to engage with the temporary posts. Previously, interactions with Stories were limited to private messages visible only to the original poster.
With this new update, users who follow each other can now leave comments on Stories for up to 24 hours, significantly enhancing public interaction on the platform. The option to comment will be available only between users who mutually follow each other, ensuring a degree of privacy and control.
Emily Norfolk, an Instagram spokesperson, confirmed that users will have the ability to toggle comments on or off for each Story, giving them more control over their content. However, it remains uncertain whether these comments will be archived once the Story expires.
This update is part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to boost user engagement through features like Reels and Stories. Earlier this summer, the platform introduced disappearing “notes” on grid posts and Reels, allowing users to leave temporary comments that expire after three days.
Additionally, Instagram announced that some post likes will now appear as floating hearts, similar to those in disappearing notes, adding a new layer of visibility to interactions from friends. These changes reflect Instagram’s continuous innovation in enhancing the social experience for its users.
