In a heart-wrenching incident, 13 members of the same family from the village of Haibat Khan Brohi near Pir Goth, Khairpur, lost their lives after allegedly consuming poisoned milk, a chemical report has confirmed. The report from the Chemical Laboratory Sukkur, obtained by Dawn.com on Friday, revealed the presence of intoxicating substances and poison in the bodies of the deceased.
The victims, including Gul Baig Brohi, his wife, five sons, three daughters, and other family members, succumbed to the poison, which, according to the report, contained insecticides and Benzodiazepine.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Samiullah Soomro, who is overseeing the investigation, stated, “We are thoroughly examining the medical report, which confirms that the victims were poisoned. Every aspect of the case is being considered, and we will take legal action accordingly.”
SSP Soomro added, “This is a highly sensitive case, involving the deaths of innocent children among others. We will proceed with caution and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.”
The village remains in shock as the mysterious deaths continue to raise alarm. Authorities are currently conducting an inquiry, and if any individual is found culpable, strict legal measures will be enforced, according to the SSP.
This incident follows other recent tragedies, including the death of a bride in July due to alleged food poisoning in Peshawar, and the deaths of two minor children in Lahore in May after consuming instant noodles.
The investigation into the Khairpur deaths is ongoing, and authorities are determined to uncover the full details behind this devastating event.
