Sherani, Balochistan – In a tragic accident on Saturday, a passenger bus traveling from Islamabad to Quetta plunged into a deep ditch in Balochistan’s Sherani district due to speeding, resulting in the death of four passengers and injuring 21 others. The accident occurred in the Danasar area of the Zhob hill range, according to local authorities.
Deputy Commissioner Sana Mahjabeen Umrani confirmed that 25 passengers were on board the ill-fated bus, and among the deceased was a woman. The injured passengers, which include women and children, received first aid at the Trauma Center in Zhob before being transferred to hospitals in Quetta for further treatment.
Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives, ordering an investigation into the accident. He emphasized that action would be taken against the bus company if negligence is proven. “No negligence will be tolerated,” the CM stated, directing the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to take strict action, including revoking the route permits of companies found violating regulations.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Trauma Centre Quetta, Kamran Khajak, confirmed that seven of the injured brought to the facility are in stable condition and out of danger.
Frequent Road Accidents in Balochistan
This incident highlights the recurring issue of road accidents in the region. Last month, 11 people died, and 35 were injured when a bus overturned on the Makran coastal highway. The vehicle was carrying pilgrims from Iran when the driver lost control due to overspeeding, resulting in a fatal plunge.
In May, another devastating accident claimed 28 lives when a bus fell into a ravine in Washuk. The crash, caused by a tyre burst, resulted in the deaths of several women and children.
These frequent accidents raise concerns about road safety in Balochistan, where dangerous road conditions and negligent driving continue to result in tragic losses of life. Authorities are under increasing pressure to enforce stricter transport regulations to prevent such occurrences in the future.
