Pakistani snooker stars Awais Munir and Asjad Iqbal advanced to the pre-quarter finals of the Snooker World Cup in Mongolia, finishing at the top of their respective group-stage matches without facing a single defeat.
Awais Munir showcased resilience in his match against Iran’s Siyavosh Mozayani, where he bounced back from an early setback to win 3-1. After losing the first frame 9-63, Awais made a remarkable recovery to clinch the next three frames with scores of 78-34, 59-50, and 73-13.
Similarly, Asjad Iqbal maintained his dominance by defeating Qatar’s Ali Alobaidli with a 3-1 victory. The frame scores were 59-36, 26-63, 58-19, and 70-58.
With their undefeated group-stage runs, both Pakistani players secured their spots in the pre-quarter finals.
Asjad’s impressive journey continued as he registered back-to-back victories in the tournament. On Saturday, he first triumphed over Mongolia’s Batarkhuu Naranhuu with a clean 3-0 scoreline, winning 71-38, 71-51, and 110-32. He followed up with another 3-0 win against Japan’s Junji Miyazawa, with scores of 68-18, 63-11, and 83-01.
Awais also maintained his winning streak, starting with a 3-0 win against Mongolia’s Kash Uchjir, with frame scores of 60-17, 62-12, and 81-09. In his next match, Awais dominated Oman’s Hussain Al-Wati, winning with scores of 68-06, 75-12, and 83-15.
The duo’s stellar performance has kept Pakistan’s hopes high as they prepare for the next stage of the competition.
