Pakistan’s rice exports have achieved an unprecedented milestone, reaching $3.89 billion during the fiscal year 2023-24. This significant rise is attributed to favorable weather conditions and the availability of crucial farm inputs.
Shehzad Ali Malik, founder of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP), announced this achievement while also revealing Malik Faisal Jahangir’s unopposed election as the new REAP chairman.
In the July 2023 to June 2024 period, Pakistan exported over 5.8 million tonnes of Basmati and non-Basmati rice varieties, marking a substantial boost to the country’s economy.
With Jahangir at the helm, REAP aims to further increase rice exports to $5 billion annually. The association plans to focus on enhancing seed research and adopting advanced agricultural practices to meet this ambitious goal. Given the current momentum, this target appears to be within reach.
