Karachi, Pakistan — Transgender leader Alisha has made a passionate appeal to the Sindh government, urging the establishment of separate wards for transgender individuals in public hospitals and the creation of dedicated shelter homes for the elderly within the community. Her call to action comes in the wake of the recent death of Nuri, who passed away due to inadequate medical facilities tailored for transgender patients.
Alisha emphasized the pressing need for improved healthcare services, criticizing the ongoing neglect despite existing laws designed to protect the rights of transgender individuals. “It is unacceptable that our community continues to face discrimination and inadequate care in medical facilities,” she stated during a press conference.
While acknowledging the efforts of the police department in supporting the transgender community through the establishment of a dedicated transgender desk, Alisha urged other sectors to follow suit. “It’s time for authorities to implement special services for transgender individuals across all sectors, ensuring dignity and care for everyone,” she asserted.
The call for action aims to highlight the vulnerabilities faced by transgender individuals in Sindh and to push for systemic changes that will provide them with the necessary support and services.
