In a tragic incident, a 30-year-old delivery boy, Bharat Sahu, was killed in Lucknow after attempting to deliver an iPhone worth 1,800 USD on a Cash on Delivery (COD) order, police reported on Monday.
Sahu, a resident of Nishatganj, had gone to deliver the phone to Gajanan, the customer who placed the order. According to police, Gajanan, along with an accomplice, murdered Sahu to avoid payment and disposed of his body in the Indira Canal.
The local police, along with a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team, have been searching the canal to retrieve Sahu’s body, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Singh.
When Sahu failed to return home, his brother filed a missing person’s report. Police immediately launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and tracking Sahu’s call records. This led them to Gajanan and his accomplice, Akash, who was apprehended and later confessed to the crime.
The killing has shocked the community, and the police are continuing their efforts to locate Sahu’s body.
Apple’s iPhones are highly sought after in India, with the latest iPhone 16 series having recently been introduced to the market. The incident highlights the growing risks delivery personnel face while handling high-value products in the e-commerce sector.
