Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has accused the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) of engaging in anti-state activities over the past six months, claiming that the group has been working against Pakistan’s national interests.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, Tarar stated, “PTM not only burned the Pakistani flag but also attacked our embassies abroad.” He further alleged that the movement was being financially supported by foreign entities to promote an anti-Pakistan agenda.
The minister also claimed that Afghan nationals were involved in several incidents attributed to the PTM. “Based on clear evidence, a ban has been imposed on PTM, and investigations are ongoing to trace the sources of their funding,” Tarar said.
Emphasizing the democratic right to peaceful protest, the minister warned that no political group would be allowed to undermine Pakistan’s sovereignty or damage its ideological foundations. “Pashtuns are our brothers and have contributed immensely to Pakistan’s development. Any organization is only banned when sufficient evidence is presented,” he added.
Tarar also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve the country’s economic situation, pointing to the rising value of the rupee and a reduction in inflation. “Our economic indicators are improving, and international financial institutions are recognizing our progress,” he remarked, stressing the government’s commitment to economic stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed all provincial chief ministers to ensure that the benefits of reduced inflation are passed on to the public, the minister revealed.
In his closing remarks, Tarar urged PTM members to abandon anti-state activities and return to the national mainstream, stating, “Our survival is tied to Pakistan. As long as Pakistan exists, we all have a future.
