A trainee airforce plane crashed in the mountainous terrain of Gadoon Amazai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district on Tuesday, according to Rescue 1122 officials.
The aircraft was destroyed upon impact, but both pilots managed to eject safely using their parachutes and sustained only minor injuries, said Rescue 1122 official Luqman Khan.
Local residents played a crucial role in assisting the pilots during the initial phase of the rescue operation. “Both pilots were frightened but unharmed, and they were promptly moved to a secure location,” said one local, whose video of the incident quickly went viral on social media.
Despite the challenging mountainous terrain, Rescue 1122’s rescue and medical teams were able to reach the site after receiving information about the crash. “The pilots were treated for minor injuries and given first aid in the Rescue 1122 ambulance,” Khan confirmed. Both were later transported to a nearby hospital by an army helicopter.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and has not been immediately determined.
