In a landmark move to enhance scientific collaboration, Hunan University of Medicine has inaugurated a research centre dedicated to the renowned Pakistani scholar, Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary. This new facility will host 17 full-time researchers focused on advancing cooperative scientific endeavors between Pakistan and China, according to a recent press statement.
Founded in 1912, Hunan University of Medicine is a prestigious national public medical university in China, offering approximately 20 undergraduate and graduate medical programs. The institution boasts over 4,500 faculty members and accommodates more than 14,425 full-time students.
Dr. Choudhary, a prominent advocate for strengthening ties between Pakistani and Chinese scientists, has long championed the establishment of collaborative research centres to facilitate knowledge exchange. His efforts have been recognized through numerous accolades, including the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, which are among Pakistan’s highest civil honors. In 2021, he received the Mustafa Prize for his contributions to bio-organic chemistry.
Currently, Dr. Choudhary serves as the Vice President of the World Academy of Sciences for Central and South Asia. He is also a research fellow at several esteemed scientific organizations, including the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry in London.
The establishment of this research centre marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between China and Pakistan in the realm of scientific research, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation for the benefit of both nations.
