In a tragic incident on Friday, at least seven individuals, including five school children and a policeman, lost their lives, and 23 others sustained injuries following an explosion in the Mastung district of Balochistan, as reported by Aaj News.
The blast reportedly targeted a police van that was en route to pick up a polio vaccination team, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Rehmatullah. The explosion, caused by an improvised explosive device attached to a motorcycle, occurred near a girls’ school and close to the Civil Hospital. In addition to damaging the police vehicle, the explosion affected a nearby rickshaw. The injured were promptly transported to the Civil Hospital for medical treatment, and authorities have initiated an investigation into the attack.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, calling it a stark demonstration of terrorists’ animosity toward education in Balochistan. He directed officials to apprehend those responsible and provide high-quality medical care to the injured.
Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti also expressed his condemnation, labeling the attack as “inhumane” and vowing to avenge the innocent lives lost. He urged civilians in urban areas to remain vigilant against terrorist threats and emphasized the importance of a united front in combating terrorism.
This incident is part of a recent wave of violence in Balochistan. Earlier in the week, five people were killed and two injured when armed assailants attacked a dam construction site in Panjgur.
