Pakistan today marked the 147th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the renowned philosopher, poet, and politician, with numerous events and ceremonies held across the country. Iqbal, celebrated for his monumental role in shaping the ideological foundation of Pakistan, continues to inspire generations with his philosophy of self-empowerment and unity.
The day began with a ceremony at the Iqbal Mausoleum in Lahore, where President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other key political leaders laid floral wreaths at his grave. In addition, special prayers were offered for Iqbal’s eternal peace, and his contributions were highlighted through speeches and presentations.
Educational institutions and cultural organizations across Pakistan also held seminars, poetry recitals, and exhibitions to commemorate Iqbal’s legacy. The day served as a reminder of his vision for a progressive and united Muslim state, which led to the creation of Pakistan.
“Allama Iqbal’s ideas and his vision for a united Muslim community continue to inspire us as we strive towards a prosperous future,” said Prime Minister Sharif during his speech. “Today, we honor his enduring legacy and reaffirm our commitment to the values he upheld.”
Iqbal, known as the “Spiritual Father of Pakistan,” is remembered for his poetry in both Persian and Urdu, which called for awakening the Muslim world and the revival of the Islamic spirit. His work laid the intellectual groundwork for the formation of Pakistan, making his birthday a significant occasion for reflection on his vision for the nation.
The day concluded with cultural performances and musical tributes celebrating Iqbal’s poetry, further ingraining his role in shaping the identity of Pakistan.
