Parachinar: In a shocking incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government helicopter midair near Parachinar on Thursday. The helicopter, reportedly on an official mission, narrowly escaped significant damage, with no casualties reported.
Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred over a mountainous region, where gunfire from the ground targeted the helicopter. Security personnel onboard managed to navigate the aircraft to safety. Local authorities have cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search operation to locate the assailants.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but officials suspect it may be linked to ongoing security challenges in the region. “We are investigating the incident thoroughly, and additional measures are being taken to ensure the safety of government operations,” a security official stated.
The KP government condemned the attack, terming it a “cowardly act” aimed at destabilizing peace in the area. This incident highlights the persistent security threats in the tribal regions bordering Afghanistan, despite ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
