Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone in the renewable energy sector, becoming the 6th-largest solar market in the world, according to a recent report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The rapid growth in Pakistan’s solar market is attributed to government incentives, declining solar panel prices, and an increasing focus on transitioning to sustainable energy solutions. In 2024, the country witnessed an unprecedented installation of solar power systems, both at the residential and industrial levels, with cumulative solar capacity crossing 10 GW.
Experts have praised Pakistan’s commitment to renewable energy, noting that solar power is helping to bridge the energy deficit, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and combat climate change. Programs like net metering and zero-duty import policies on solar equipment have further bolstered adoption.
Pakistan aims to generate 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, with solar energy playing a pivotal role. Officials from the Ministry of Energy stated that the country is well on track to surpass this target, signaling a brighter and greener future for Pakistan.
This achievement positions Pakistan as a leader in solar energy within the South Asian region, reflecting the growing global recognition of its renewable energy ambitions.
