Multan, December 3, 2024 – Pakistan’s blind cricket team has made history by winning their first-ever Blind T20 World Cup, defeating Bangladesh by a commanding 10 wickets in a thrilling final held at Multan.
Bangladesh, batting first, managed 139/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Areef Hussain stood out with a resilient knock of 54 runs. However, Pakistan’s bowlers ensured the target remained within reach, with Babar Ali leading the attack by claiming two wickets. Mohammad Salman and Matiullah contributed with a wicket each, keeping the Bangladeshi batters under pressure.
In response, Pakistan’s batting lineup showcased a flawless performance. Openers Nisar Ali and Mohammad Safdar chased down the target in just 11 overs without losing a wicket. Nisar Ali’s unbeaten 72 and Mohammad Safdar’s 47 not out sealed a dominant 10-wicket victory, marking a momentous achievement for the team.
This win is particularly significant as it ends India’s long-standing dominance in the Blind T20 World Cup. Since the tournament’s inception in 2012, India had won all three previous editions, twice defeating Pakistan in the finals. Pakistan’s triumph on home soil not only breaks this streak but also cements their place among the elites of blind cricket.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the team for their stellar performance. “Nisar Ali and Mohammad Safdar’s contributions were outstanding, and the entire team deserves immense credit for their dedication and resilience,” he remarked. Naqvi also lauded the management’s role in the team’s success and expressed optimism for continued victories in the future.
The historic win has sparked celebrations across the nation, with fans hailing the team as an inspiration and a source of pride for Pakistan.
