The Punjab government has approved a significant allocation of Rs. 3.44 billion for the establishment of model bazaars in 13 districts across the province. The initiative seeks to provide citizens with accessible and affordable shopping facilities while promoting local businesses.
The model bazaars will feature designated areas for fresh produce, groceries, and household items at regulated prices, ensuring relief for consumers grappling with inflation. These bazaars are also expected to create employment opportunities and streamline the supply chain for small vendors.
“This project aligns with our vision to facilitate the public by providing quality goods at fair prices. The bazaars will also contribute to improving the standard of local markets,” said a government spokesperson during the announcement.
The selected districts for the project include Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Gujranwala, among others. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025, with completion slated within the year.
Citizens have welcomed the move, hoping it will bring much-needed relief to their monthly budgets. However, economic experts emphasize the importance of ensuring transparency and effective management to achieve the project’s goals.
