The port city of Karachi experienced a significant drop in temperatures on Tuesday night, with the mercury dipping to single digits for the first time this season. At Jinnah Terminal, the temperature plummeted to 9°C, marking the arrival of wintery conditions in the metropolis.
According to the Meteorological Department, Gulistan-e-Jauhar recorded 10°C, while Shahra-e-Faisal registered a slightly higher 12°C. Other areas also felt the chill, with Mauripur and Bin Qasim port recording 12.5°C and 12.2°C, respectively.
The weather in Karachi is expected to remain cool and dry during the night, with the minimum temperature forecasted to hover around 10°C over the next 24 hours. Winds are blowing at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour from the northeast, with a humidity level of 48%.
Historically, Karachi’s average temperature in December is 13.4°C, making this dip in mercury notable for the city’s typically mild winters.
Balochistan Shivers in Sub-Zero Temperatures
Meanwhile, the cold weather is intensifying in Balochistan, with Quetta recording a bone-chilling -4°C.
Snowfall Expected in Northern Areas
The Meteorological Department has also forecasted cold and dry weather across most parts of the country today. However, light rain and snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and nearby hilly regions, offering a picturesque winter scene in the northern areas.
Residents are advised to take precautions as the cold wave grips various regions, with more chilly nights expected in the coming days.
