The federal capital experienced a bone-chilling night as temperatures plunged to 0°C, marking one of the coldest nights of the season. A severe cold wave has gripped Pakistan, bringing frosty conditions to several regions, leaving residents bracing for an intense winter.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that temperatures in northern areas, including Skardu and Gilgit, have fallen below freezing, with some regions recording sub-zero temperatures as low as -10°C. The cold wave is expected to persist for the next few days, intensifying in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
Residents in Islamabad and Rawalpindi woke up to icy winds, prompting a surge in the demand for warm clothing and heating appliances. Many are taking precautions to shield themselves from the frigid weather, while authorities have advised citizens to stay indoors during peak cold hours.
The cold spell has also impacted agricultural activities, with farmers concerned about frost damage to crops in northern and central parts of the country.
Meteorologists have attributed the cold wave to strong westerly winds and a dip in the jet stream, bringing colder air from the north. While no immediate rain or snowfall is expected in Islamabad, higher altitudes in Murree and nearby areas are likely to experience snowfall, attracting tourists seeking to enjoy the winter weather.
The PMD has urged people to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions as the cold wave shows no signs of relenting.
