ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Database Registration Authority (Nadra), Lt Gen Muhammad Munir Afsar, has dismissed Director General Zulfiqar Ahmed following revelations of his fake degree from an American university.
The scandal came to light after an inquiry by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), which verified the information obtained by Nadra. The investigation revealed significant discrepancies in Zulfiqar Ahmed’s academic credentials.
According to the HEC probe, the individual who signed Ahmed’s MBA degree was not the president of George Mason University, USA, at the time of issuance. Moreover, the name of the college listed on his BBA degree did not match the institution’s actual name during that period.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) supported the HEC’s findings and upheld its decision to revoke the equivalence of Zulfiqar Ahmed’s degrees. Following the court’s ruling, Chairman Nadra initiated disciplinary proceedings.
Sources reveal that Ahmed failed to provide satisfactory responses to a show-cause notice issued by Nadra. Consequently, Lt Gen Muhammad Munir Afsar terminated his employment, ensuring accountability and upholding the organization’s integrity.
This action underscores Nadra’s commitment to transparency and adherence to strict ethical standards within its ranks.
