After 17 days of disruption, water supply to Karachi has been restored following the repair of an 84-inch main pipeline that had burst earlier this month. The pipeline, located near Dhabeji Pumping Station, is a critical conduit for supplying water to the metropolis.
Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) officials confirmed the completion of repair work late Wednesday night. The pipeline burst had caused significant challenges in meeting the water demands of various areas across the city, leaving many residents reliant on water tankers and alternative sources.
The repair work faced delays due to logistical hurdles and the need for specialized equipment, according to KWSB spokesperson. “The damaged section has been replaced, and the pipeline is now operational,” the official stated.
Residents in affected areas, including Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and North Karachi, have welcomed the news but expressed concerns over the aging water infrastructure. “This is a recurring issue. The authorities need to upgrade the pipelines instead of resorting to temporary fixes,” said a local resident.
The city administration has assured that preventive measures are being planned to avoid such incidents in the future. In the meantime, the restored pipeline is expected to bring much-needed relief to Karachi’s water-starved households.
