Pakistan Railways has officially started producing new train coaches locally after successfully transferring technology from China. The production of high-speed passenger coaches and goods wagons is now underway at workshops in Lahore and Islamabad.
Chinese experts have played a crucial role in building technical capacity, helping Pakistan Railways engineers and technicians manufacture modern rail components domestically. Over the next three years, the Pakistan Railways Carriage Factory in Islamabad is set to assemble 184 new passenger coaches.
This initiative is part of broader infrastructure development under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), including the upgrade of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway track, which is crucial for enhancing Pakistan’s transport and economic connectivity.
