Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite-based internet service, is expected to offer high-speed internet ranging from 50 to 250 Mbps in Pakistan. However, the service’s steep monthly cost of approximately Rs. 35,000 may limit accessibility for many users in the country.
Starlink is known for providing reliable internet in remote and underserved regions where traditional broadband services are unavailable. With over 4,500 satellites already in orbit, the service has expanded globally, offering high-speed, low-latency internet.
In Pakistan, the service is anticipated to benefit businesses and individuals in rural and mountainous areas, such as Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan, where connectivity issues persist. However, the high subscription cost and additional expenses for the necessary hardware, estimated at Rs. 1.2 lakh, may prove challenging for widespread adoption.
Tech enthusiasts and industry experts have welcomed the potential launch but are urging policymakers to negotiate lower prices to make the service more accessible to the general public.
