The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday introduced WhatsApp groups to enhance communication and convenience for complainants. The initiative was announced during an open public hearing conducted by NAB Lahore Director General (DG) Ihtiram Dar, marking his first such session since assuming office.
The hearing attracted 350 victims of Ponzi schemes and fraudulent housing societies, seeking justice for their financial losses. Among the complainants were investors affected by major financial scams, including the Prime Zone Scandal, Unique Solar Panels Scandal, ForUReal Traders, and several other fraudulent investment firms. Additionally, victims associated with illegal housing societies such as Omega Housing Society, Al-Rehman Garden Phase-IV, Grand Avenue Housing, Pak-Arab Housing, and Formanites Housing Society were also present.
Addressing the victims, DG NAB Lahore assured that mega fraud cases were being prioritized to provide swift relief to the affected individuals. He emphasized the bureau’s open-door policy and the launch of WhatsApp groups as part of efforts to keep complainants informed about case progress while maintaining transparency.
During the session, several victims disclosed that fraudsters had misused the names of well-known medical stores on social media, luring unsuspecting individuals with promises of high returns. In response, DG NAB Lahore instructed the immediate publication of newspaper advertisements warning the public against such fraudulent activities.
Providing an update on the Prime Zone Scandal, the NAB Lahore chief revealed that investigations had been completed within a limited time frame. Formal approval had been sought to file a reference in the accountability court in the coming week. He further disclosed that NAB had collaborated with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to issue red warrants for the prime suspect, Imran, whose arrest through Interpol would mark a significant breakthrough in the case.
Regarding the ForUReal Traders case, the DG highlighted that since October 2024, statements of over 1,000 victims had been recorded. He assured complainants that all suspects had been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) to prevent them from fleeing the country. Investigations into the matter were progressing rapidly, with NAB committed to ensuring the case reaches its logical conclusion without undue delay.
The establishment of WhatsApp groups aims to enhance direct engagement between complainants and NAB, providing a platform for updates and case tracking to improve accountability and efficiency in fraud investigations.
