Gwadar, Pakistan – In a historic development, the first donkey meatpacking plant in Pakistan has officially opened its doors in Gwadar, marking a significant milestone for the country’s growing export industry. The plant, which has been set up to cater primarily to the demand for donkey meat in China, aims to meet the increasing market needs of the Chinese consumer market.
The Gwadar facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, has been designed to meet international food safety and quality standards. This new venture not only represents an expansion of Pakistan’s agricultural export sector but also aligns with the growing demand for donkey meat in China, which is considered a delicacy and has various culinary and medicinal uses.
Officials have expressed optimism that the opening of this plant will lead to increased trade relations between Pakistan and China, as well as generate significant employment opportunities in the region. The plant will source its donkeys from local farms and is expected to process hundreds of animals daily for export.
While the plant has already received regulatory approval, it also faces scrutiny from animal rights groups concerned about the ethics of donkey slaughter. Nonetheless, government officials have assured that the operations are being carried out under strict supervision to ensure humane practices.
The Gwadar meatpacking facility is expected to become a key player in the global meat export industry, contributing to Pakistan’s growing footprint in international trade. This new venture further strengthens Gwadar’s position as a strategic port city under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative, which continues to bolster trade and infrastructure development in the region.
