Pakistan Railways has announced the privatization of seven passenger trains in an effort to enhance service quality and provide better facilities to travelers. The decision, revealed on Sunday, aims to involve private companies in the railway sector through an open bidding process.
The bidding process will be conducted in two phases. Private companies that qualify in the technical bid evaluation will be eligible to participate in the financial bidding round. However, due to a delay in the preparation of bidding documents, all interested parties have been given a new deadline of February 25, 2025, to submit their final bids.
The trains set to be privatized include:
✅ Karachi Express
✅ Farid Express
✅ Bahauddin Zakariya Express
✅ Sukkur Express
✅ Mohenjo Daro Express
✅ Rawalpindi Passenger Train
Officials believe this move will bring improved management, enhanced passenger experience, and modernized railway services. The privatization initiative aligns with Pakistan Railways’ broader strategy to attract private investment and boost operational efficiency.
What’s Next?
With the new bidding deadline set, all eyes are on potential private investors who may bring innovation and efficiency to the country’s rail network. More updates are expected as the process unfolds.
