In a major relief for citizens, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to make its parking sites free of charge. Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, announced that no parking fee will be charged at KMC-managed sites across the city.
Wahab stated that the decision was taken in the public interest, emphasizing that KMC is currently in a stable financial position with over Rs 2 billion in its account, with expectations of further inflows.
To implement this, an official notification will be issued, ensuring that citizens are no longer charged parking fees at KMC sites. The mayor also warned against unauthorized fee collection, stating that legal action will be taken against individuals or groups illegally charging money under KMC’s name.
However, he clarified that while parking fees are abolished at 46 out of 106 major roads in Karachi, they will still be applicable in 25 towns and 6 cantonment board areas that do not fall under KMC’s direct jurisdiction.
This move is part of KMC’s broader efforts to enhance public convenience, reinforcing their commitment to serving Karachi’s residents.
