Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a crucial meeting with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025 in Dubai. The discussions focused on Pakistan’s ongoing IMF program and the macroeconomic stability achieved through the government’s comprehensive reform agenda.
According to a PM Office press release issued Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to structural reforms and fiscal discipline, which have been instrumental in stabilizing the country’s economy and paving the way for sustainable growth.
He emphasized the progress made under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which has played a key role in economic recovery. The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s determination to sustain reform momentum, particularly in taxation, energy sector efficiency, and private sector development.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva lauded Pakistan’s efforts in implementing the IMF-supported program, recognizing rising growth and declining inflation as positive indicators of economic recovery. She also acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz’s leadership and personal commitment in driving the reform agenda, which has been essential in achieving economic stability.
She reaffirmed the IMF’s continued support for Pakistan’s reforms, stressing the need for fiscal discipline, structural adjustments, and good governance to ensure long-term economic growth.
