A devastating head-on collision between an SUV and a car on the Indus Highway near Manjhand, Jamshoro district, claimed the lives of five individuals, including Zain Turabi, son of the late Allama Hassan Turabi.
The accident occurred on Friday as the victims were returning to Karachi from a religious gathering in Khairpur. The deceased were identified as Zain Turabi (22), Syed Ali Jan Rizvi (30), Khuwaja Ali Kazim (15), Khuwaja Nadeem (25)—all from Gilgit-Baltistan—and Abdul Ghani Mangrio (35), the driver.
The SUV involved in the crash was carrying devotees traveling from Lahore to the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan. All six passengers of that vehicle suffered injuries, with two in critical condition. The injured were identified as Bilal Niazi, Ahsan Niazi, Majir Niazi, Muhammad Ishaq Niazi, Aziz Bhatti, and Muhammad Shabbir. The critically injured were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad for urgent medical care.
Eyewitnesses reported that one of the vehicles was traveling on the wrong side, leading to the fatal collision. The impact was so severe that the car was completely destroyed, while the SUV sustained significant front-end damage.
Rescue teams from Hyderabad and local police responded to the incident, but the lack of trauma centers along the highway hampered immediate life-saving efforts. The bodies of the deceased were transported to Karachi by Ali Muhammad Shakir of the Shia Ulema Council.
The tragic accident has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved road safety measures and emergency medical facilities along the Indus Highway.
