Karachi: The daily commute in Pakistan’s largest city has turned into an obstacle course, with residents struggling to avoid rugged roads and potholes that have become a hallmark of Karachi’s streets. From main thoroughfares to residential lanes, broken roads and craters pose a serious challenge to drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians alike.
Despite being the economic hub of the country, Karachi continues to face infrastructure issues, with damaged roads causing traffic congestion, vehicle breakdowns, and even accidents. The situation worsens during the rainy season, as water-filled potholes become traps for unsuspecting commuters.
Residents express frustration over the lack of proper road maintenance. “Every day feels like a survival game. We zigzag through roads, trying to avoid potholes, but there’s no way to escape them all,” says a local motorcyclist. Others complain about frequent vehicle repairs due to the deteriorating conditions.
While authorities announce road rehabilitation projects, progress remains slow, leaving Karachiites to fend for themselves. Until a permanent solution is found, navigating Karachi’s streets remains a test of patience and skill.
