Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, known for his strong personal beliefs and ethics, reportedly refused to accept interest on the funding he provided for the 2017 film Ittefaq. The actor and producer cited religious reasons, stating that earning interest (riba) is forbidden (haram) in Islam.
According to media reports, SRK had partially funded the suspense thriller starring Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha, and Akshaye Khanna. When the film’s earnings were calculated, Khan declined any additional returns beyond the principal amount, in line with his religious stance against interest-based earnings.
The revelation has sparked admiration among fans, with many praising the Bollywood icon for staying true to his values despite being one of the most successful figures in the film industry.
Ittefaq, produced under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment in collaboration with Dharma Productions, was a remake of the 1969 film of the same name. It was well-received for its gripping storyline and performances.
This is not the first time Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his views on financial ethics. The actor has previously mentioned his commitment to ensuring that his earnings align with his personal and religious principle
