Dhaka – Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack on Sunday and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The 36-year-old cricketer, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, experienced severe chest pain shortly after the toss. He fielded for just one over before leaving the ground.
Tamim was initially taken to a nearby hospital for immediate evaluation. Later, his condition worsened, leading to an emergency angioplasty to address arterial blockage. He is currently under intensive medical care.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the incident, with Chief Medical Officer Dr. Debashis Chowdhury stating that Tamim’s condition is being closely monitored and that he will require further observation.
Tamim Iqbal, who retired from international cricket in January 2025, is Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in limited-overs formats and the only Bangladeshi player to score centuries in all three formats of the game.
The cricketing community and fans worldwide are sending their prayers for Tamim’s swift recovery.
