Islamabad: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has officially set an annual fee limit of Rs. 18 lakhs for private medical and dental colleges across the country. The decision aims to regulate soaring tuition costs and ensure affordability for aspiring doctors and dentists.
According to the new policy, private institutions offering MBBS and BDS programs will not be allowed to charge beyond the prescribed limit per year. The move comes in response to concerns about excessive fees being charged by private colleges, making medical education unaffordable for many students.
PMDC emphasized that strict monitoring mechanisms will be in place to ensure compliance with the fee structure. Any institution found violating the limit could face penalties, including license suspension or revocation of accreditation.
Medical students and parents have welcomed the decision, considering it a relief against the financial burden of private medical education. However, private colleges argue that operational costs and faculty salaries require a more flexible fee structure.
With this latest development, the PMDC aims to strike a balance between ensuring quality education and preventing financial exploitation in the medical education sector.
