Pakistani cinema’s biggest blockbuster, The Legend of Maula Jatt, is set to make a grand return to UK cinemas this Eid. Due to overwhelming demand, the critically acclaimed film will once again grace the big screens, giving fans another opportunity to experience its cinematic brilliance.
Directed by Bilal Lashari, the film features an all-star cast, including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Humaima Malick. The epic action-drama, which reimagines the 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt, tells the story of an intense rivalry between Maula Jatt (Fawad Khan) and Noori Natt (Hamza Ali Abbasi), set against the backdrop of honor, vengeance, and justice.
Originally released in October 2022, The Legend of Maula Jatt shattered box office records, grossing over $13.8 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time and the most successful Punjabi-language film in global history. In the UK alone, it emerged as the top South Asian film from 2018 to 2022, surpassing major Bollywood releases.
The film’s re-release in UK cinemas is a historic moment, making it the first South Asian movie to be re-released theatrically despite the availability of digital streaming. Fans will be able to watch the cinematic masterpiece across multiple UK cinemas, including major chains such as ODEON, starting from April 21, coinciding with the Eid celebrations.
Producer Ammara Hikmat expressed excitement over the re-release, stating, “It’s incredible to see The Legend of Maula Jatt return to theaters after its phenomenal run. This proves the enduring power of cinema and the love audiences have for this film.”
Director Bilal Lashari also shared his gratitude, saying, “The response to the film has been overwhelming. I’m thrilled that audiences will have another opportunity to experience the magic and grandeur of The Legend of Maula Jatt on the big screen.”
With its action-packed sequences, breathtaking cinematography, and powerful performances, The Legend of Maula Jatt promises to be a must-watch experience this Eid.
