In a historic milestone for Pakistan’s medical community, a record-breaking 1,061 Pakistani doctors have successfully secured residency placements in the United States within a single year, as per the latest data released by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
This impressive achievement marks Pakistan as the second-highest contributor of international medical graduates (IMGs) to the U.S. healthcare system this year — a testament to the country’s growing reputation for producing top-tier medical professionals.
These Pakistani doctors earned placements in some of the most prestigious U.S. hospitals and academic institutions, covering a wide range of specialties including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, and family medicine.
Medical experts have praised the achievement, calling it a significant boost to Pakistan’s global image in the healthcare sector. “It reflects the dedication, talent, and rigorous training of Pakistani medical students and graduates,” said Dr. Asim Javed, a U.S.-based Pakistani physician.
The National Residency Match Program (NRMP) 2025 saw a surge in overall international medical graduate success, but Pakistan’s leap in numbers stood out, breaking all previous records and setting a new benchmark for future applicants.
Social media has also lit up with celebrations, as families, friends, and fellow doctors applaud this wave of success, which promises not just individual growth but long-term collaboration between U.S. institutions and Pakistani medical schools.
This achievement also comes amid growing interest from Pakistani youth in global medical careers, further motivating aspiring doctors back home.
