In a remarkable milestone, OpenAI’s AI chatbot, ChatGPT, has officially become the most downloaded app worldwide, racking up an astounding 46 million downloads in just one month.
According to data analytics firm AppMetrics, ChatGPT surpassed popular platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp in March 2025, thanks to a surge in interest driven by its latest AI updates and integration with productivity tools.
Tech analysts attribute the boost to OpenAI’s recent rollout of GPT-5, which introduced enhanced reasoning, multimodal capabilities, and real-time assistance for tasks like writing, coding, learning, and even emotional support.
“This is a groundbreaking moment in the history of mobile applications,” said tech analyst Sarah Kumar. “It shows that the demand for AI-powered personal assistants is not only real but growing exponentially.”
ChatGPT is now being used by students, professionals, creators, and businesses alike, with features such as voice interaction, document analysis, and image generation becoming key attractions.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to the news with a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We’re honored and excited to see ChatGPT becoming a daily tool for millions. This is just the beginning.”
With AI adoption accelerating and user engagement at an all-time high, experts predict ChatGPT could reach the 100 million monthly download mark by mid-2025.
