In a significant diplomatic development, the Pakistani military has publicly acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s key role in facilitating recent peace overtures between Pakistan and India, calling the Kingdom a “brother and a brother forever.”
During a press briefing on Monday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that Saudi Arabia played a “constructive and sincere” role in helping de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
“Saudis are our brothers – and brothers forever. Their recent efforts to bridge understanding between Pakistan and India reflect the deep-rooted trust and historic bond between our nations,” the ISPR spokesperson said.
The statement follows recent backchannel diplomacy that reportedly led to a renewed ceasefire commitment along the Line of Control (LoC), improved communication between the military leaderships, and the possibility of restarting bilateral talks on trade and humanitarian issues.
According to diplomatic sources, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had personally engaged with top leadership in Islamabad and New Delhi, urging restraint and dialogue amid rising regional tensions.
General Chaudhry emphasized that while Pakistan remains committed to regional peace, its stance on core issues — including Kashmir — remains unchanged. However, he welcomed “any initiative that contributes to long-term stability and the well-being of the people on both sides.”
The acknowledgment signals a shift toward more active Saudi diplomacy in South Asia, and highlights Riyadh’s growing influence as a mediator in regional conflicts.
India has not officially commented on the Saudi role, but sources in New Delhi have hinted at a “positive environment for dialogue.”
