In a move to modernize passenger services and improve travel experience, Pakistan Railways has announced free Wi-Fi access on 40 trains across the country.
According to officials, the initiative is part of a broader plan to integrate smart technology into the country’s rail infrastructure. The service will allow passengers to stay connected during their journeys — enabling access to emails, social media, entertainment, and real-time travel updates.
The Wi-Fi installation will begin with major express trains including the Green Line, Tezgam, and Awam Express, and will gradually expand to other intercity and long-haul services.
“This step reflects our commitment to making rail travel more passenger-friendly, tech-savvy, and competitive with other modes of transport,” a Pakistan Railways spokesperson said.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with a national telecom provider, ensuring stable and high-speed internet coverage even during long-distance routes.
Passengers and travel groups have welcomed the announcement, calling it a long-overdue improvement that will particularly benefit students, business travelers, and families on the move.
The service is expected to roll out in phases, with full implementation targeted by the end of 2025.
