ISLAMABAD – A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck parts of northern and central Pakistan on Saturday, shaking Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The tremors were felt around 2:15 PM and lasted several seconds, prompting residents in various cities to rush out of homes and offices in panic. The epicenter of the quake was located near the Hindu Kush region, at a depth of 190 kilometers.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage, but emergency response teams remain on alert. Authorities have advised citizens to stay calm and follow safety precautions in the event of aftershocks.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in the region due to its position near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
