Posters have surfaced on the walls of several shops within a slum in Gurugram, a suburb of New Delhi, demanding that Muslims vacate the area by Monday or face dire consequences. The locality, situated in the vicinity of the Indian Union capital, has been identified as Sector 69. Gurugram, known for its financial and technological prominence, has been rattled by the appearance of these inflammatory posters.
The appearance of these posters comes on the heels of a call by groups associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), an organization linked to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for a ‘shobha yatra’ – a religious procession – to recommence the Brij Mandal Shobha Yatra in Nuh. The latter event had previously been disrupted by communal clashes in July.
Local reports indicate that a resident named Mojed, who owns a tea shop in the area, found one such poster affixed to the wall of his establishment. This poster, allegedly bearing the names of VHP and Bajrang Dal, urged Muslims to leave the vicinity by Monday or be held accountable for the consequences, which were ominously hinted to be life-threatening.
Mojed, a native of West Bengal who currently resides in the slum, voiced suspicions that an individual named Aseef may have planted the poster with malicious intent. Mojed recounted that he had been threatened by Aseef several days prior and believed this could be an attempt to instigate violence in the area. Mojed’s complaint led to the registration of an FIR (First Information Report) with charges including criminal intimidation, intentional insult, and disobedience of public orders.
Interestingly, the VHP has distanced itself from these provocative posters and has called for action against any attempts to defame the organization. The unfolding investigation aims to ascertain the involvement of the accused Aseef, who is suspected of being linked to the incident.
In another deeply disturbing occurrence, Neha Public School in Khabbupur village, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, remains shuttered for the third consecutive day. This development comes after a Muslim student was reportedly slapped by his classmates on the instruction of a teacher, Tripta Tyagi. The incident has sparked outrage, leading to widespread condemnation.
The teacher’s actions were captured in a viral video, wherein she allegedly directed students of Class II to slap their Muslim peer for failing to complete his homework. The student’s family filed a complaint, prompting the registration of a case against Tyagi under sections related to causing hurt and intentional insult within the Indian Penal Code.
Uttar Pradesh government authorities have issued a show-cause notice to Neha Public School, demanding an explanation for the incident and its affiliation status. Tyagi, in her defense, expressed regret for her actions but attributed them to her physical limitations.
These incidents underline the urgency of addressing religious harmony and tolerance in Indian society, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent the propagation of hatred and discrimination.
