New Delhi — The Indian Air Force (IAF) has put forward a proposal to purchase 114 Rafale fighter jets, a deal estimated at nearly PKR 6.6 trillion (INR 2 trillion), following the recent war with Pakistan.
Defense officials said the plan is aimed at modernizing the IAF’s fleet and strengthening India’s air superiority. The Rafale jets, manufactured by France’s Dassault Aviation, are known for advanced avionics, precision targeting systems, and long-range strike capabilities.
The proposal has sparked heated debate within India, with critics questioning the massive cost of the purchase at a time when the country is grappling with economic challenges. Supporters, however, argue that the deal is necessary to ensure national security and maintain a strategic edge in the region.
The final approval for the procurement will depend on the Indian Ministry of Defence and government clearance, with negotiations expected to take several months.
