Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to see another hike in the upcoming fortnightly review, according to officials familiar with the matter. The anticipated increase comes amid rising global oil prices and currency fluctuations that continue to pressure Pakistan’s energy sector.
Industry sources said international crude oil benchmarks have surged in recent weeks, while the Pakistani rupee has shown volatility against the US dollar, both contributing factors to the likely adjustment in fuel rates.
If approved, the new prices will be implemented by the government after consultation with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). Petrol and diesel are the most widely consumed fuels in Pakistan, and any increase is expected to impact transport, agriculture, and consumer goods, leading to further inflationary pressures.
Analysts warn that the hike could place an additional burden on ordinary citizens already struggling with the high cost of living. However, officials argue that adjustments are necessary to align domestic rates with global market trends.
The official announcement is expected in the coming days.
