October 5, 2025 — Jerusalem: An Italian activist associated with the Global Samoud Flotilla, which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, has reportedly embraced Islam while being held in an Israeli prison.
According to reports shared by flotilla organizers, the activist declared his conversion to Islam during detention, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and admiration for their resilience.
The activist was part of an international delegation aboard the Global Samoud Flotilla, which was intercepted by Israeli naval forces in the Mediterranean Sea last week. The flotilla’s mission sought to draw attention to the ongoing blockade of Gaza and deliver medical supplies and relief goods.
Human rights organizations have urged Israeli authorities to ensure fair treatment of all detainees and to release international activists detained for humanitarian action.
The flotilla organizers described the activist’s decision as a “spiritual awakening born out of witnessing the steadfastness (‘Samoud’) of the Palestinian people.”
So far, the Israeli government has not issued an official statement regarding the activist’s reported conversion or current legal status.
