Lahore, October 7, 2025 — The Punjab government has announced plans to construct a new expressway in Lahore at an estimated cost of Rs. 9 billion, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility across the provincial capital.
According to official sources, the modern expressway project will connect key areas of the city, providing faster access between residential, industrial, and commercial zones. The initiative is part of the government’s broader “Modern Lahore” infrastructure vision, which includes the expansion of roads, bridges, and smart traffic systems.
Chief Minister Punjab said the project reflects the government’s commitment to developing sustainable urban transport solutions and reducing daily travel time for commuters.
Officials added that feasibility studies and design approvals are already underway, with construction expected to begin later this year. Once completed, the expressway is expected to significantly reduce traffic load on existing routes such as Canal Road and Ferozepur Road.
Urban development experts have welcomed the announcement, calling it a key step toward transforming Lahore into a modern, efficient, and connected metropolis.
