LAHORE – 18 October 2025:
The Punjab government has announced plans to construct a new international airport in Lahore, aiming to enhance the province’s aviation capacity and support growing passenger and cargo demand.
According to officials, the project is part of a broader infrastructure and economic development initiative that seeks to transform Lahore into a major regional transport and logistics hub.
A feasibility study is currently underway to identify suitable locations on the outskirts of the city, with priority given to accessibility, environmental impact, and connectivity to key motorways.
Provincial ministers said the new airport will help reduce congestion at Allama Iqbal International Airport, which has been operating near capacity in recent years due to rising air traffic and trade activity.
“The new facility will not only strengthen Punjab’s economy but also attract investment, tourism, and new business opportunities,” said a senior official from the Punjab Planning & Development Department.
The project will reportedly be developed through a public-private partnership model, with international firms expressing early interest in collaboration.
Further details, including the estimated cost and timeline, are expected to be announced after the completion of the feasibility phase.
