ISLAMABAD – 18 October 2025:
In a major policy decision, the Government of Pakistan has announced that it will not seek foreign aid for post-flood recovery efforts, instead choosing to rely on domestic resources and internal management to rebuild affected areas.
Officials said the decision reflects a new national approach focused on self-reliance, fiscal discipline, and accountability. The government aims to fund reconstruction projects through budget reallocations, public-private partnerships, and community-driven initiatives.
“Pakistan will stand on its own feet. We are capable of helping our own people and rebuilding our country without external dependency,”
a senior government spokesperson said in a press briefing on Friday.
The move comes after weeks of assessment by disaster management authorities and provincial governments, who have been coordinating relief efforts following heavy monsoon flooding in parts of Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan.
Analysts believe the decision signals a shift toward economic independence and confidence in Pakistan’s ability to manage large-scale humanitarian and infrastructure challenges.
International organizations, including the UNDP and World Bank, have reportedly offered technical support but will not be directly funding the recovery process.
The government has assured transparency in fund allocation and announced that a national reconstruction plan will be unveiled later this month.
