Islamabad, November 4, 2025: In a major boost to Pakistan’s tech manufacturing sector, Google has announced plans to establish a Chromebook production factory in the country — the company’s first such facility in South Asia.
According to government officials, the initiative aims to promote local assembly and export of affordable Chromebooks, supporting Pakistan’s growing digital education and IT infrastructure. The move is also expected to create hundreds of skilled jobs and attract foreign investment in the country’s technology ecosystem.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication confirmed ongoing discussions with Google representatives to finalize operational details, including site selection, workforce training, and incentives under Pakistan’s “Make in Pakistan” initiative.
Experts say the decision reflects Pakistan’s potential as an emerging hub for electronics manufacturing and digital innovation. The project could also enhance access to affordable computing devices for schools and remote learners nationwide.
